New Doughnut Shop, La Rue Doughnuts, Set to Open in Dallas.
Dallas will welcome a new addition to its culinary scene this week. La Rue Doughnuts, the latest venture from acclaimed chefs Casey and Amy La Rue, is scheduled to open at Trinity Groves on August 29. The shop will occupy the space formerly held by Cake Bar, which relocated to the Medical District earlier this year.
The La Rue duo, known for their award-winning Carte Blanche restaurant and bakery on Greenville Avenue, have shifted their focus from a broad array of pastries to a singular dedication to doughnuts. Following the closure of Carte Blanche in June, the La Rues are channeling their expertise into La Rue Doughnuts, which will feature an assortment of doughnuts including brioche, cake, old-fashioned, and their signature crullers.
What sets La Rue Doughnuts apart from other establishments in the Dallas-Fort Worth area—and indeed across the U.S.—is their commitment to crafting doughnuts from scratch. Unlike many doughnut shops that use pre-made flour mixes, La Rue will prepare their dough in-house, ensuring a unique and high-quality product.
The La Rues’ doughnuts are expected to continue their tradition of inventive flavors, which previously included passion fruit and pistachio. Given their impressive track record, including back-to-back Forbes Five-Star awards and a prestigious AAA Five-Diamond award, expectations are high for the new shop. Some speculate that La Rue Doughnuts could even qualify for Michelin’s Bib Gourmand, an accolade given to establishments offering exceptional food at reasonable prices.
Despite the excitement, there has been some confusion among fans. Many have inquired about the continuation of croissants—a popular item at Carte Blanche. La Rue Doughnuts has addressed these questions on social media, explaining that the new shop will focus solely on doughnuts. A recent Instagram post featured a crossed-out image of a croissant with the caption: “We will NOT be serving croissants. We are diving deep into our love affair with the doughnut.”
The decision has sparked a range of responses from their followers. While some are disappointed, others are supportive of the shop’s focus. Comments on social media reflect the divide, with some users expressing a desire for croissants and others appreciating the commitment to doughnuts.
La Rue Doughnuts will be open during the following hours: Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out, and Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
