Smithfield’s Jaswell’s Farm Reopens After Renovations.
SMITHFIELD — Jaswell’s Farm has reopened its doors after a seven-month renovation, bringing back its renowned apple cider donuts, flavored lemonades, and other popular treats, according to Allison Jaswell Molis, the farm’s fourth-generation owner.
The farmstand, which usually shuts down for the winter, remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic. Molis said the closure began in January for extensive renovations. The family chose to renovate the farmstand themselves, which included updating walls, doors, counters, and display cases. The work extended over the winter and into the summer, with the farmstand reopening in the first week of August.
“It was certainly a labor of love,” Molis stated, noting that the project took longer than expected because the family handled the renovations on their own. “It’s a refreshed space,” she added.
Although the farmstand has reopened, renovations are not yet complete. The family plans to continue improvements over the winter months.
“We’re excited to be here and are seeing many friendly faces,” Molis said. “The support from the town is incredible. I’m thrilled that my great-grandfather chose this spot.”
Jaswell’s Farm is also celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Molis described the milestone as “monumental” and hinted at celebration plans, with events expected around Halloween. “Stay tuned,” she added.
In the meantime, the farmstand will offer its usual selection of locally sourced fruits, farm-grown vegetables, local sauces, pancake and muffin mixes, specialty jams, and imported pasta. Due to the late start to the season, the farmstand has already begun selling its popular apple cider donuts. As temperatures drop, it will feature specialty donuts and hot apple cider. Pumpkin donuts with cream cheese frosting are also on the way.
Lemonade is available in seven summer flavors. “It’s all summery,” Molis said.
With apple season approaching, the farm will offer pick-your-own apples, sunflowers, and pumpkins. These activities are expected to continue through September, October, and possibly into November, weather permitting.
For Thanksgiving, the farmstand will offer pies, cakes, gourmet apples, gift baskets, and of course, apple cider donuts. The stand will remain open until December 24.
Jaswell’s Farm operates seasonally with varying hours. Currently, it is open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
