OMG! Decadent Donuts has triumphed at the Baking Association of Australia Excellence in Baking Awards, securing four prestigious accolades.
This thriving business, known for its pop-up stalls across Moreton Bay, operated by franchise owner Mike Mason, claimed gold, silver, and bronze in the Best Gourmet Donut category, as well as a silver award for Best Cinnamon Donut.
Owners Noel, Monique, and Jacinta Collison run pop-up stalls in the North West area at Arana Hills Plaza, Eatons Hill Village, the Samford CWA Hall, and Marketplace Warner.
All-Natural Delight
Noel expressed the team’s excitement over the wins. “Our customers always tell us that our donuts are the best, and we believe that too. Now we can confirm they are 100 percent correct,” he says.
He added that the awards were particularly gratifying because the judging was based on blind tasting. This meant that the panel of top chefs had no way of knowing the winning donuts were free from gluten, dairy, egg, wheat, yeast, nuts, and sulphites, and were 100 percent natural and vegan.
Winning Combinations
OMG! Decadent Donuts earned the gold award for its Spicy Ranga donut, which features a blend of ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, and cloves. The Dusty Queen, flavored with orange and cinnamon, won silver, while the Coffee Yum Yum received bronze.
Founded by restaurateur David Moore and co-directors Andrew Clarke, Steven Morris, and Diane O’Reilly, the business offers delectable treats that cater to diverse dietary needs and preferences.
Inclusive Treats
David celebrated the achievement, saying, “OMG! We’ve won these huge awards against a vast number of ‘normal’ donuts.”
He emphasized that gluten-free and vegan bakery products often get a bad reputation for taste and texture. “Winning these awards clearly demonstrates that this is not the case,” he said.
“Research indicates that people with strict dietary requirements often face feelings of exclusion and anxiety. By offering a product that everyone can enjoy regardless of dietary needs, we foster inclusivity and belonging,” David added.
