Two beloved dessert spots in the Fort Worth area have recently closed their doors, highlighting ongoing challenges faced by local eateries during the slowest months of the year. Chip’d Hot Cookie Nachos, known for its warm chocolate chip cookies topped with various sauces and ice cream, has shut down its storefront on Forest Park Blvd. The bakery, which opened in early 2023, will continue operating its food truck in Aledo.
Chip’d struggled since its inception, appealing for support on social media since last August and narrowly avoiding closure in February. Despite strong social media backing, the decision to close was made public on June 28, citing months of financial struggle.
In a similar move, Dough Boy Donuts, renowned for its innovative “extreme doughnut” creations like sriracha maple-bacon and Fruity Pebbles flavors, has closed its Burleson location. Founder Melvin Roberson, who originally launched Dough Boy Donuts as a food truck during the peak of the extreme doughnut trend, announced the closure due to health reasons. The shop had relocated from Fort Worth to Burleson in 2021 after gaining popularity at events like the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival.
Roberson expressed gratitude for the community’s support over the nine years of Dough Boy’s operation, emphasizing the impact of health issues on the decision to close the beloved doughnut shop.
Both closures underscore the challenges faced by local businesses in maintaining operations amid economic fluctuations and personal health issues.
