Whit’s Frozen Custard Teams Up with Bill’s Donut Shop for New Flavor

by Celia

Whit’s Frozen Custard, based in Centerville, has introduced an enticing new flavor that features Bill’s Donut Shop’s renowned sour cream donuts.

Named “Donut Dream,” this delectable creation combines Whit’s signature vanilla custard, drizzled with caramel, and generously mixed with chunks of sour cream donuts.

Owner Jeff Neace, marking two successful years since opening, expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with what he calls “a community icon.”

Neace revealed that before the flavor’s launch, he invited Marshall Lachman, Bill’s owner, to taste-test their creations. They experimented with two variants—one using a glazed yeast donut and another with a sour cream cake donut. Ultimately, they opted for the cake donut due to its superior texture and taste when frozen.

Emma Neace, Jeff’s daughter, played a pivotal role in perfecting the new flavor. Recalling fond memories of visiting Bill’s Donut Shop every Friday morning during her school days at Incarnation Catholic School, Emma noted that the sour cream donut had always been her favorite. She was confident it would complement the custard beautifully.

The announcement of the new custard flavor on Friday evening resulted in rapid sales, with stocks depleted by Saturday afternoon. Due to high demand, Emma prepared additional batches on Monday and Wednesday mornings, both of which sold out quickly.

At Whit’s, fresh custard is made daily, featuring four core flavors—vanilla, chocolate, the flavor of the day, and the flavor of the month. Neace expressed his desire to offer the new “Donut Dream” flavor daily, which they achieve through pint-sized portions.

“Donut Dream” joins another locally inspired flavor, “Kiefaber Krunch,” launched in February. Named after Emma’s residence on Kiefaber Street while attending UD as a junior, this flavor features cinnamon custard, caramel drizzle, cinnamon sugar, and crushed graham crackers. A portion of the sales from “Kiefaber Krunch” supports Dayton 6th, an NIL organization for UD Basketball.

Neace aims to consistently offer four to five flavors with ties to the Miami Valley. The next upcoming flavor will be a collaboration with Boston Stoker.

Reflecting on the community’s response, Neace commented, “Dayton excels in these collaborative efforts. Everyone pitches in to support each other.”

“Donut Dream” is available for $7.50 in Whit’s Grab-N-Go freezer, located conveniently to the left of the counter.

“We started with a vision of integrating into the community, and I believe we’re achieving that,” Neace concluded. “This is their Whit’s. This is their go-to place.”
