Flakely Gluten Free bakery in Philadelphia has unveiled a novel addition to its offerings: a “pastry ATM” stocked with its popular gluten-free treats, including croissants, bagels, baguettes, cakes, and ‘pop tart’ pastries. According to a report by Philly Voice, the vending machine is designed with four shelves, accommodating up to 60 frozen items at any given time.
Owner and pastry chef Lila Colello, who was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2010, spearheaded the initiative to enhance accessibility to high-quality gluten-free options. “I am thrilled to make our products more accessible during regular business hours, especially in South Philly, where our strongest following resides,” Colello shared with the news outlet.
For Colello, the introduction of the pastry ATM is particularly meaningful, aiming to simplify the quest for premium gluten-free baked goods. “As a chef and a gluten-free baker, I understand the challenges of finding top-notch products for those with celiac disease,” she explained. “This innovation ensures our most devoted customers can enjoy our offerings more conveniently.”
Operating the vending machine is straightforward: customers utilize contactless payment to select their desired pastry, which is stored frozen until taken home for heating. Each item is equipped with a microchip tag, ensuring accurate billing once removed from the machine.
The introduction of Flakely’s pastry ATM marks a significant stride in providing accessible, high-quality gluten-free options to the community, reflecting Colello’s dedication to culinary excellence and inclusivity in dietary choices.
