SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A beloved San Francisco donut shop is preparing to move to a new location.
Bob’s Donuts on Polk Street will relocate after failing to reach a lease renewal agreement with its current landlord, announced San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin in a news release on Monday. The shop, currently situated at 1621 Polk St., will move just one block away to 1720 Polk St.
The new location will feature an expanded dining room and overall larger space, accommodating the long lines Bob’s Donuts is known for, according to Peskin.
With a history spanning over 50 years, Bob’s Donuts was nominated by Peskin in April to the city’s Legacy Business Registry. This registry recognizes small businesses that are crucial in maintaining San Francisco’s cultural identity.
Peskin highlighted that Bob’s Donuts is not the only business struggling with lease agreements. “Bob’s Donuts exemplifies the kind of legacy small business that defines the character of Polk Gulch and faces challenges with commercial landlords unwilling to offer fair leases,” Peskin said.
Bob’s Donuts operates 24/7 at its Polk Street location. It also has two other branches at 601 Baker St. in San Francisco and 252 Almonte Blvd. in Mill Valley, which are not open 24/7.
“This business is not just about making money,” said longtime co-owner Aya Ahn. “We’re about taking care of each other, our customers, and contributing to the Polk Street small business community. We are an extended family in this neighborhood.”
