“Fresh bread!” echoed through the air as employees at 85°C Bakery Cafe announced each tray of freshly baked goods brought to restock the bustling shelves. This cheerful call was a common sound during my visit to the newly opened bakery, the first 85°C Bakery Cafe in San Antonio, on the second day of its soft opening.
San Antonio’s first 85°C Bakery Cafe officially opened on Monday, June 10, following nearly a year of anticipation. This long wait was evident in the consistent line stretching outside the door around 10:30 a.m. the next day. The queue included a diverse group of customers: parents with children, medical professionals on break, and a senior couple who had spent time living in Asia, openly expressing their excitement.
Fortunately, the line moved quickly, and it took only about 10 minutes before I could enter the building. Inside, I was greeted by rows of shelves filled with a wide variety of breads, pastries, and sweet treats. The shopping experience at 85°C Bakery Cafe is similar to that of a panadería: you walk around with a tray, select your desired items, and then line up to check out.
