TAUNTON — Reuniting with an old friend is one of life’s simple pleasures, especially after a long absence. Residents of Taunton and neighboring communities are eagerly anticipating such a reunion with a beloved local institution: Colonial Do-Nut Shop.
The iconic shop at 91 Broadway, which closed in 2022 after more than 70 years in business, has remained eerily preserved, as if waiting for customers to return. Now, that wait is almost over.
New Ownership
Brian Levesque, co-owner of Grove Street Tavern in Taunton, and his wife Kerlin have taken the helm of Colonial Do-Nut Shop. The couple has been diligently working to bring the cherished donuts back to the community.
Reopening Date
Since announcing the news on Facebook in May, excitement has been building. “We are targeting a mid-July opening date,” Brian Levesque told The Taunton Daily Gazette. “There are a lot of things that we need to do to get ready and we are just now starting to get fully involved with the process due to our current schedules.”
Levesque’s busy schedule has played a significant role in the timing. He was supposed to retire from his full-time job in mid-April but had to delay his departure. He has now shifted to part-time, allowing him to focus more on the reopening of Colonial Do-Nut.
In addition to his responsibilities at Grove Street Tavern, Levesque’s wife Kerlin is a full-time interpreter for the Bristol County Court System. She will continue in that role while also assisting with the donut shop.
The beloved donut shop is set to open its doors again soon, ready to welcome back its loyal customers.
