Renowned for its delectable potato donuts, the Holy Donut, originally based in Portland, is set to unveil its latest location in Brunswick next week.
Nestled at 147 Pleasant St. along U.S. Route 1, the new Holy Donut establishment prioritizes convenience, as emphasized by the company. The site, previously housing a Tim Hortons coffeehouse, boasts ample parking, a convenient drive-through option, and a welcoming dining area.
Jeff Buckwalter, co-owner and CEO of the Holy Donut, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion into Brunswick and the midcoast region. “The community’s vibrant energy aligns perfectly with our brand ethos,” he stated. “We’re excited to introduce our artisanal donuts to new friends and neighbors, aiming to create moments of joy through our culinary offerings.”
Consistent with its other locations, the Brunswick shop will feature a rotating array of seasonal flavors alongside perennial favorites like dark chocolate sea salt and maple bacon.
The decision to extend operations to Brunswick was first disclosed by the Holy Donut in December 2023. Since March of this year, the company has been delighting Brunswick residents with its delectable treats via a food truck, operating Thursday through Sunday.
To commemorate the opening of the physical store, a grand inauguration is scheduled for Friday, May 17. The festivities will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 9-10 a.m.
Established in 2011, the Holy Donut is a locally owned family business that opened its inaugural store on Portland’s Park Avenue in 2012. Presently, the enterprise operates two outlets in Portland, one in Scarborough, and one in Arundel, providing employment to a workforce of 100 individuals.
The company has navigated through various challenges, including the closure of its Exchange Street branch in Portland in 2020. However, it has also experienced triumphs, such as the reopening at the former Bill’s Pizza site on Commercial Street in 2021. The Holy Donut opted to close its Auburn store in February 2022 due to lower-than-anticipated business.
