Bimbo Canada has disclosed its decision to shut down its bakery located in Lévis, Quebec, by July. The company intends to shift the production of goods from this facility to other bakeries in Quebec, where sufficient capacity is available.
According to a statement released by Bimbo, this closure aligns with their strategy to enhance productivity and streamline production efficiencies.
Marie-Ève Royer, President of Bimbo Canada, emphasized the company’s commitment to building a sustainable business to achieve long-term objectives. She noted substantial investments in Canada since 2014, with a significant portion directed to Quebec. Despite efforts to sustain and expand operations, declining site utilization and production led to the difficult decision to close the Lévis bakery.
Royer assured that measures would be taken to support affected employees, which currently number approximately 95. Severance packages will be provided, along with personal counseling and ongoing outplacement services and workshops. Employees will also be encouraged to apply for vacancies in other Bimbo Canada facilities in the region, such as those in Québec City and Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce (Vachon).
