Ajax, ON – Biscuits to Baskets, a family-owned bakery in Ajax, has garnered significant attention recently after a visit by TikTok sensation Keith Lee. However, this newfound popularity has led to an unexpected turn of events for the longstanding establishment.
For over two decades, Biscuits to Baskets has operated smoothly from founder Suzanne Smith’s backyard shed, located at 49 Beatty Road. Despite its unconventional setting, the bakery thrived, faithfully adhering to all necessary protocols.
However, a recent inspection by local authorities highlighted concerns about the shed’s suitability as a commercial space due to its separation from the main house. Consequently, the bakery has announced its intention to cease operations from the shed effective June 1st.
In response to this development, the bakery will relocate its operations to the front of the house, ensuring continuity of service. While this interim solution allows the business to persist, plans are already in motion for a more permanent arrangement.
The Biscuits to Baskets team, primarily consisting of Suzanne Smith’s family members, revealed aspirations to transition into a commercial space by autumn, propelled by what they dub the ‘Keith Lee Effect.’
“The business has experienced unprecedented growth since Keith Lee’s visit, and we are eager to expand beyond the limitations of a home-based operation,” states the team in a recent announcement.
To facilitate their upcoming move and commemorate Lee’s visit, the bakery has launched a presale of Keith Lee-themed merchandise, with proceeds contributing to the relocation fund.
Despite the setback of relocating from its original shed location, Biscuits to Baskets remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering quality baked goods to its loyal customer base and embracing the opportunities brought forth by its newfound fame.
