Japanese donut chain Mister Donut has unveiled its latest confectionary collaboration, teaming up once again with Kyoto-based tea merchant Gion Tsujiri. The partnership, part of the “Misdo Meets” series, introduces a tantalizing array of treats infused with Kyoto-grown roasted green tea.
Renowned for its matcha offerings, Gion Tsujiri shifts focus to hojicha for this collaboration. Unlike matcha, hojicha boasts a toasted, nutty flavor profile and a rich brown hue. The star of the collaboration, the “Nama Pon de Ring Uji Hojicha,” features Mister Donut’s signature Pon de Ring dough infused with Gion Tsujiri’s hojicha from Uji, Kyoto’s tea hub. The donut is then finished with a luscious hojicha glaze.
Taking indulgence a step further is the “Nama Pon de Ring Uji Hojicha Kinako,” which swaps the glaze for a dusting of kinako (roasted soybean powder) sugar. To enhance the hojicha experience, the donut comes with a sachet of brown sugar hojicha sauce for drizzling just before consumption.
While the prospect of sticky sauce on a powdered sugar donut may seem messy, enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the flavor payoff of the Nama Pon de Ring Uji Hojicha Kinako.
Both offerings, priced at 220 yen (US$1.45) and 242 yen respectively, will be available from April 24 until late May. They join last month’s lineup, which featured the Miso Meets Gion Tsujiri Pon de Double Uji Matcha, Pon de Uji Matcha Crispy Arare, and Pon de Uji Matcha Wasanbon Warabimochi, priced at 209, 221, and 231 yen respectively. Mister Donut is also offering a bundle pack containing all five donuts for 1,100 yen.
For enthusiasts, this collaboration presents an irresistible opportunity to indulge in a symphony of hojicha-infused delights, making it a challenge to resist the temptation of trying them all.
