In the realm of Aussie comfort foods, Vegemite on buttered toast holds a special place, as does the soft indulgence of sweet cinnamon buns. What if you could combine the two? Well, that’s not a mere flight of fancy but a delicious reality – one that even earned praise from renowned chef Gordon Ramsay on a recent episode of Channel 9’s new reality show, Food Stars. Competitor Sina Klug, the creative mind behind Sydney’s beloved vegan bakery Miss Sina, is the mastermind behind this unique creation.
During a recent episode of Food Stars, contestants were challenged to craft a dessert featuring Vegemite, a task that proved particularly daunting for Klug, a German-born baker who admits to not being personally fond of the savory spread. Nonetheless, Klug rose to the challenge, infusing her popular cinnamon bun recipe with a twist: Vegemite-candied pecans, chantilly cream, and a luscious Vegemite caramel. Ramsay’s reaction? He was blown away, describing the creation as “exquisite” and “absolutely delicious,” and even went back for seconds. (Watch out, Marmite!)
Speaking to Time Out Sydney, Klug shared Ramsay’s enthusiastic response, noting the chef’s compliments and even a few behind-the-scenes fist bumps.
Members of the Time Out team had the opportunity to sample these unique buns firsthand and wholeheartedly agreed with Ramsay’s assessment.
But the good news doesn’t end there – Miss Sina and her team are now offering these delightful creations at their Marrickville bakery, ensuring everyone can experience the bun that captured Ramsay’s heart. Regardless of your stance on Vegemite, these buns are worth a try. And here’s another kicker – they’re completely vegan.
“Move over pavlova, we’ve just created the ultimate Australian dessert!” exclaimed Klug.
The Vegemite-caramel bun from Miss Sina’s is currently available for a limited time at their Marrickville location on 132 Illawarra Road. Don’t miss your chance to taste it – roll on over today.
