Darlin Bakery Debuts in Stewartville, Drawing Enthusiastic Community Support

Stewartville — Darlin Bakery saw a triumphant opening this Saturday, met with an outpouring of community enthusiasm as hundreds queued eagerly outside its doors, eager to sample its offerings.

Familiar to locals from her tenure at Sweet House Bakery opposite Saint Marys Hospital, Jenyce Habibovic has returned to her hometown, where the reception has been nothing short of heartwarming. Taking over what was once the renowned Tarsilla’s cafe, Habibovic has breathed new life into the establishment, now under her ownership.

For Habibovic, the venture is more than just a business opportunity; it’s a return to cherished family roots. “This building means everything to me. I grew up here as a child,” she reflected. “I was thrilled when it became available. I seized the opportunity to start my business here. The bakery’s inception traces back to my grandparents.”

Indeed, Habibovic credits her grandparents with imparting her baking skills, with even the tantalizing cinnamon rolls on Darlin Bakery’s menu originating from her grandfather Don’s recipe.

Long-standing Stewartville residents Dotty and Charlie O’Brien fondly recall their dining experiences at Tarsilla’s and express delight at its revival. “We used to come for fish on Friday nights and breakfast after mass on Sundays. It’s wonderful that we don’t have to drive to Rochester anymore,” remarked Dotty O’Brien, while Charlie added, “It saves a trip!”

With family at the heart of her enterprise, Habibovic has ensured that the bakery remains a collective effort. “She was determined to bring it back home, and the reception speaks volumes,” remarked Loretta Muller, Jenyce’s mother, echoing the sentiments of many patrons. “The warmth and nostalgia have been overwhelming. Memories are flooding back.”

Reflecting on the weekend’s success, Cassie King, Jenyce’s cousin, shared, “It’s been a joy to see it return home, to relive the wonderful memories of working together as a family.”

As the opening weekend draws to a close, Habibovic looks ahead to sustaining the family business for generations to come. “It’s been a whirlwind, but an immensely gratifying one. We’ve fed countless people, and their return visits speak volumes,” she remarked.

Darlin Bakery welcomes patrons from 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends, promising a delightful culinary experience rooted in tradition and family values.
