Roggenart European Bakery, Bistro, and Café, a well-established chain with four existing locations in Maryland, is expanding its reach into Northern Virginia with the impending opening of its inaugural venue near the Ballston Metro station.
While an exact opening date has not yet been confirmed, the company anticipates unveiling its Ballston location within the coming weeks.
Roggenart debuted its flagship bakery and bistro in Savage, Maryland, in 2017, subsequently branching out to Columbia, Ellicott City, and Towson.
The name “Roggenart” derives from the German phrase meaning “the art of rye.”
Occupying the space previously held by Republic Coffee Bar at 4401 Wilson Blvd., which shuttered during the pandemic, Roggenart’s new outpost will introduce patrons to a menu steeped in European flavors and culinary traditions. Highlights include croissant breakfast sandwiches, omelets, oven-baked melts, cast iron pressed sandwiches, as well as a selection of soups and salads.
Complementing the savory offerings are an array of freshly baked goods meticulously crafted in-house daily. These include bacon and gruyere swirls enveloped in croissant dough, danishes, strudels, tarts, and pies.
Operating hours at the Ballston location will span from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., catering to early risers and late-night diners alike. Currently, the establishment is actively seeking to fill approximately 20 positions to staff its new venture.
