PALMERTOWNSHIP, Pa. – A new sweet spot is coming to Northampton County.
No BS Donuts is expected to open this summer at 2439 Nazareth Road in Palmertown, offering a variety of fresh, handmade daily donuts, said co-owner Bill Ciotola.
The shop, located in the soon-to-be-renovated 25th Street Shopping Plaza, is expected to open Aug. 1, according to Ciotola, who will operate the store with his wife, Siobhan.
The shop’s name has a double meaning, with “BS” standing for the Ciotolas’ initials and “No BS” referring to the Bethlehem couple’s straightforward approach to making delicious, old-fashioned donuts, “every bite is as good as the last,” Bill said.
Bill, 60, dates his donut-making experience back to his teenage years when he worked at Mars Bakery and made donuts for Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
In the decades that followed, he witnessed the meteoric rise of various national and international donut chains and their impact on small, independent donut shops.
Bill said that “almost every mom-and-pop donut shop was crushed” by the proliferation of these large chains, which offered “high-volume, discounted products that were produced by machines.”
