Krispy Kreme is set to make its debut in Brazil with the opening of its first restaurant in São Paulo in late April. The expansion will be carried out through a minority-interest joint venture with Ipiranga’s AmPm, Brazil’s largest convenience store chain.
Raphael Duvivier, Krispy Kreme’s President of International, highlighted Brazil’s potential as a key strategic market for global expansion. He stated, “Brazil offers a significant strategic opportunity as we advance our transformation into a bigger and better Krispy Kreme by expanding points of access globally.”
The collaboration with AmPm will leverage the convenience store’s extensive network of 1,500 retail locations to distribute Krispy Kreme’s signature doughnuts. The company will utilize its asset-light franchise model to minimize investment costs, while still broadening its reach. The first phase of expansion includes the opening of Krispy Kreme’s “Hot Light Theater”, followed by the application of the brand’s hub-and-spoke model to deliver fresh doughnuts to an expanding network of AmPm stores.
Krispy Kreme also plans to open additional retail locations outside of the AmPm network as part of its broader growth strategy in Brazil. This marks an exciting new chapter for the iconic doughnut brand as it continues to expand globally.
