Mister Donut, Japan’s leading doughnut chain, continues to satisfy its loyal customers with a beloved treat: matcha doughnuts made in collaboration with the prestigious green tea experts at Gion Tsujiri.
Gion Tsujiri, founded over 150 years ago in Uji, Japan, sources its matcha from the region, which is renowned as the top matcha-producing area in the country. This makes the matcha used in these doughnuts some of the finest in Japan. Since 2016, the limited-edition “Misdo meets Gion Tsujiri” collection has been a hit, evolving into more delicious and innovative flavors with each release. This year, five new doughnuts are now available for fans to enjoy.
The standout doughnut, named “Nothing But Uji Matcha,” is a must-try for green tea enthusiasts. It features matcha in the dough, a whipped cream filling, a powdered matcha topping, and a unique jelly-like warabimochi center, a traditional Japanese bracken starch confectionery.
For those who enjoy a variety of flavors, there’s a doughnut combining matcha dough with azuki red bean paste, chestnut paste, and candied chestnuts. The mix of ingredients, including a crunchy chocolate coating, offers a delightful contrast to the matcha flavor.
