Orillia Bakery Renames Texas Donut to Make a Playful Political Statement

A beloved treat at Orillia’s Mariposa Market has received a temporary but eye-catching name change, combining national pride with a playful jab at Canada’s southern neighbour.

The bakery’s popular Texas Donut, known for its massive size, has been rebranded as the Bigger and Better Than Texas Donut.

Though the name change is lighthearted, it has resonated with customers, especially amid recent trade tensions and economic concerns between Canada and the United States.

Bob Willsey, owner of Mariposa Market, said the idea came from a couple of customers who jokingly asked if the downtown shop would consider renaming the donut.
