Twin Donuts, a landmark donut shop in Allston, will close its doors on March 24 after decades of serving the community. The shop, which has been a staple since it opened in 1955, is shutting down due to increasing costs that the owner could no longer manage.
“It’s like a physical punch in the gut. It’s sad. It’s an institution. I don’t know what to say. I’m terribly sorry,” said customer Lauren Signa, speaking to WBZ-TV. Another customer, Jack from Quincy, expressed his sorrow, saying, “It’s definitely going to be a loss for the neighborhood and for everything. It’s just so sad that all of these small businesses are going out of business.”
The closure marks the end of an era for the Allston neighborhood, where Twin Donuts has been a cherished local institution for generations.
