BERKELEY, CA — During the holiday season, many health-conscious residents who typically avoid sweet treats often make an exception. To highlight the best holiday treats, the Mercury News explored bakeries around the Bay Area, naming nine standout establishments. Among them is Masse’s Pastries in Berkeley.
Masse’s Pastries gained recognition for its sufganiyot, a traditional Jewish jelly-filled doughnut.
“We were the first place in the Bay Area to serve sufganiyot,” said Marcia Masse, owner of the bakery. “People go crazy for them.”
