Mystic’s Young Buns Doughnuts will close its West Main Street location at the end of 2024, the bakery announced Wednesday. The final day to purchase doughnuts from the shop will be December 31, according to a post shared on the business’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
The doughnut shop, which opened in 2020, was founded by Adam and Ebbie Young. The couple also owns Sift Bake Shop, with locations in Mystic, Niantic, and Westerly, Rhode Island. In their social media post, the Youngs explained that Young Buns’ lease on West Main Street was ending and they decided it was time to “streamline resources and focus on new and exciting opportunities.”
“We know this news will be met with mixed emotions,” the Youngs wrote. “Young Buns Doughnuts has been embraced by so many, and we are incredibly grateful for that. We are thankful for the relationships we’ve built and for the amazing customers who have walked through our doors.”
The couple shared that they would now turn their attention to opening a new Sift Bake Shop location at Mohegan Sun, and they encouraged customers to stop by Sift Mystic to say hello. They also hinted at the possibility of a Young Buns Doughnuts pop-up in the future.
Regarding the employees at the Mystic location, the Youngs assured customers that no one would lose their job. The couple offered all staff members the option to stay on with the company in other roles.
The building on West Main Street has already been leased to another local, family-owned business, according to the post.
After the closure, customers with Young Buns gift cards can use them at any Sift, Mix Rooftop, or A.T.Y Bar & Bonbons location.
