Nanaimo RCMP is thankful no one was hurt after a car doing donuts in a neighborhood lost control and crashed into a home.
The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. Saturday at the roundabout of Butcher Road and Knewill Drive. RCMP responded to reports of the crash and found the car wedged against the front of a nearby house. The homeowner and neighbors were outside assessing the damage.
Witnesses told police the driver had been aggressively spinning the car in circles, commonly known as “doing donuts.” The vehicle then appeared to lose control, driving across a lawn and smashing into the side of the house, damaging the brickwork and a basement window.
After the crash, witnesses reported seeing two people exit the vehicle and flee the scene. Police located the alleged driver about an hour later. The young man was issued multiple tickets, including failing to remain at the scene, driving without care, and driving without insurance.
“This incident could have ended tragically and serves as a reminder that dangerous driving has no place on our streets,” said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien of Nanaimo RCMP. “Drivers will be held accountable for their actions.”
The car has since been towed away.
