Second-grade students at Wesley Prep School are doing their part to spread holiday cheer by selling donuts this week to raise money for families in need. The funds will help the students “adopt” angels from The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree, a program that provides gifts for those struggling during the holiday season. The students hope their efforts will both raise awareness and contribute to the program’s success.
In addition to helping others, the student-led project also serves as a math lesson. As they raise funds, the children will budget their earnings to buy as many items as possible from the Christmas wish lists of their adopted angels.
The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program is one of the largest of its kind in the world, serving tens of thousands of people in North Texas each year. The program is especially important during times of economic strain, as many families continue to struggle with rising costs and inflation. For those facing tough financial decisions, the Angel Tree provides a way to bring joy to Christmas morning without the added burden of gift shopping.
The Angel Tree program will run until December 7 and aims to assist 45,000 children, seniors, and adults with special needs across the region. Donations of new, unwrapped gifts can be dropped off at various locations in North Texas, including convenient drive-thru options.
The second graders will be selling donuts for $2 each throughout December, all while spreading holiday smiles to customers.
