Dunkin’ customers, including many regulars and even some celebrity fans like Ben Affleck, are voicing their frustration over the coffee chain’s recent switch in iced drink lids. This lid change, which began rolling out a few weeks ago, has sparked a wave of complaints online, with some customers even calling it “traumatizing.”
The controversy first started in July when a Reddit user posted about the new lid design, expressing hope that it was just a temporary change. The user described the new lids as “terrible,” saying they “fall off, break, and leak.” At the time, some customers noticed the new lids were used only for drinks with cold foam or when regular lids were unavailable. However, many were told the change was permanent — and now, it appears to be true.
Complaints have continued to roll in, with several customers describing frustrating experiences. One user shared a story of their cold brew spilling all over their car’s carpet after the lid popped off unexpectedly. “I’m literally still traumatized from it,” they wrote.
Customers have criticized the new design, describing it as having “just an open hole” with no tab to pull. Many say the lids come off easily with even the slightest movement and do not stay secure. While one person expressed a preference for the new lids because they avoid using straws, others argued that the new design fails to function properly.
“I just want a lid that works,” one frustrated customer said. “Neither of the lids I’ve had worked like they’re supposed to.”
Some have also complained that the lids are difficult to put on and can cause the cup to collapse. One customer explained that when trying to attach the new lid, the pressure often causes spills, especially with smaller cups. They also noted that the new hot drink lids have sharp, jagged edges that can even cause cuts.
