A group of teenagers armed with handguns robbed a popular doughnut shop in Berkeley early Wednesday morning before stealing a cash register from a nearby gas station, authorities said.
The robbery began around 6:30 a.m. when six teenagers, wearing masks, gloves, and dark clothing, entered Dream Fluff Donuts at 2637 Ashby Ave. They stole money from the cash register before fleeing the scene in two dark-colored sedans, Berkeley police reported.
Shortly afterward, another group of eight teenagers entered the Chevron gas station at 2996 Telegraph Ave., just five blocks away. They took the cash register and other items before leaving in three dark-colored vehicles, police said.
No injuries were reported in either robbery.
Berkeley police noted that both crimes were out of the ordinary, as the city has seen a decrease in robberies this year following a rise in incidents last year.
