Donnie’s Donuts has closed its final Florida location at One Daytona, marking the end of the donut chain’s presence in the state. The closure was announced on November 1 by owners Donald and Patti Summerlin via a Facebook post. The One Daytona shop, which had been operating since 2021, was the couple’s last remaining Florida location.
The Summerlins first opened Donnie’s Donuts in 2015 on Seabreeze Boulevard in Daytona Beach. A year later, they moved the business to Ormond Beach, where they continued serving customers for seven years. During that time, Donnie’s Donuts gained recognition, ranking 12th on Yelp’s Top 100 Donut Shops in the U.S. in 2022.
In January 2023, the Summerlins closed their Ormond Beach location, citing rising insurance costs and financial struggles following the 2022 hurricane season. In their Facebook post, the couple reflected on the lasting impact of the hurricanes on their business. “It’s not just about the hurricanes’ destruction to property and individuals, but the economic downturns for years afterward,” they wrote.
The Summerlins also expressed their sadness over the closure, stating, “We have given it everything we had for 9 years and are simply devastated for our employees and our fantastic customers.”
While Donnie’s Donuts is no longer operating in Florida, the business remains active at its Atlanta location. “We hope you can visit us in Atlanta; we sure could use your support and business,” the Summerlins added. “This was an extremely difficult decision to make. We love our Florida Donut Family.”
