Clarksville, TN – A Sweet Sensation in Town.
Parlor Doughnuts, located on Madison Street, has quickly become a beloved spot in Clarksville. Known for its unique layered doughnuts, the shop bakes fresh daily, attracting both locals and visitors.
Chris Block, the Director of Operations for the franchise, shared insights about the company. The idea for Parlor Doughnuts originated when founder Chris Proctor was on vacation in Destin, Florida. After discovering the shop, he enjoyed the doughnuts so much that he decided to franchise the brand upon returning home.
Franchising began in 2021, with the first location opening in Evansville, IN. Currently, Parlor Doughnuts operates two stores and has plans for seven territories, including Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge in Tennessee.
The Clarksville location opened on June 11, 2023. Block noted that significant renovations were needed to transform the space, requiring extensive work on plumbing and electrical systems.
Parlor Doughnuts stands out for its specialty offerings. “Our coffee is roasted in Evansville and shipped fresh,” Block explained. “We provide iced lattes, hot chocolate, and more, all made from scratch.”
The shop’s signature doughnuts are tied, fried, rolled in sugar, and glazed on-site. Block emphasized the variety, offering 20 to 24 flavors that change with the seasons. They also cater to dietary needs with keto and gluten-free options, making doughnuts accessible for those with gluten sensitivities.
Staff members begin their day at 4:00 AM to serve early customers, including teachers picking up treats for their classrooms. While the display case is cleared around noon, customers can still request any doughnut throughout the day.
Block stressed their commitment to freshness, stating that nothing is kept for the next day. “We make small batches all day,” he said. Popular flavors include French Toast and Strawberry Shortcake, with unsold doughnuts donated to local first responders and community members.
Despite a small team of eight to ten employees, the shop maintains busy hours from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, seven days a week. With around 60 locations nationwide, Parlor Doughnuts continues to grow amidst economic challenges.
“We invite everyone to try us out,” Block said. “We’re more than just doughnuts. We offer a full breakfast menu, including sandwiches and tacos.”
General Manager Emilee Davis added that a significant portion of their business comes from carryout and online orders, especially on weekends when they prepare around 960 doughnuts.
Block concluded by highlighting the light, airy texture of their doughnuts, noting their appeal to regulars and newcomers alike. Parlor’s founders, who started with a vision for a combined coffee and doughnut shop, have successfully brought their dream to life in Clarksville.
