New Dunkin’ Donuts to Open in Newport’s Expanding Highway 70 Corridor.
A new Dunkin’ Donuts is set to join the growing lineup of businesses in Newport along the Highway 70 corridor. Located in the Courtesy Town Square shopping center, near Bojangles, the new Dunkin’ marks the latest addition to the area’s expanding food and beverage scene. While no specific construction timeline has been provided, a sign announcing the arrival of the popular coffee chain was put up on Friday.
Town Manager Bill Shanahan, Jr. expressed enthusiasm about the new development. “We are happy they’re coming,” he said. “We think it will benefit the community and probably encourage me to hit the gym more.”
The new Dunkin’ will be the fifth stand-alone location in Carteret County, joining two in Morehead City, one in Beaufort, and another in Cedar Point.
This announcement comes on the heels of other recent developments in the Highway 70 area. In September of last year, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q opened at the intersection of Highway 70 and Roberts Road, further contributing to Newport’s steady commercial growth.
The town is poised for more growth as it will be the first municipality travelers pass through when Interstate 42 is completed. The new interstate will terminate at the Carteret-Craven County line, connecting to the Havelock Bypass, which is projected to be finished by spring 2025.
“These are the first steps toward what we expect will be major improvements for the community,” Shanahan added.
In addition to the new Dunkin’ Donuts, Newport is home to Stable Grounds, a locally-owned coffee shop that has been serving the community since the spring of 2020.
