Krispy Kreme Launches New Japanese-Inspired Donut: Kome-Dough Kuromitsu Kinako.
Krispy Kreme is introducing a unique donut to its Japanese menu this fall, blending traditional Japanese flavors with a new twist. The latest creation, the Kome-Dough Kuromitsu Kinako, features dough made from rice flour, a significant departure from the usual wheat-based recipe.
The term “Kome-Dough” highlights the use of rice flour, derived from locally grown Japanese rice. Krispy Kreme claims this ingredient not only adds a subtle sweetness but also enhances the donut’s chewiness, giving it a distinctive texture.
Previously, Krispy Kreme Japan experimented with rice-flour donuts under the name “Komeco” last November. Due to their success and positive customer feedback, the chain has decided to permanently include rice-flour donuts in its menu, introducing the Kome-Dough line.
The new Kome-Dough Kuromitsu Kinako donut is adorned with a glaze of kinako (roasted soybean flour) and a swirl of kuromitsu (a molasses-like brown sugar syrup). Both of these ingredients are staples in traditional Japanese sweets.
The Kome-Dough Kuromitsu Kinako will be available nationwide in Japan starting November 1, priced at 313 yen (approximately $2.25).
