Dough Donuts Announces New Location on Upper East Side.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Dough Donuts, renowned for its light and airy brioche donuts, is set to open its fifth storefront on the Upper East Side this fall, according to owner Steven Klein.
“This is a significant move for us,” Klein told Patch. “We’ve received numerous requests from both the Upper East and Upper West Sides asking us to come uptown.”
Klein confirmed that the new location at 1119 Lexington Avenue will open in November, bringing Dough Donuts’ signature treats to a new neighborhood.
A Sweet History
Dough Donuts first opened its doors in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, around 13 years ago.
“We created the brioche donut,” Klein said. “Our chefs developed it from scratch.”
So, what makes a brioche donut special?
“Very few places in the country make brioche donuts,” Klein explained. “Ours are light, fluffy, and large. We make all the flavors by hand. It’s a unique donut, both in appearance and taste.”
Dough’s menu features distinctive flavors such as hibiscus, passion fruit, and dulce de leche, crafted by a diverse team of Latin and French-African chefs.
Klein shared, “I come from Canarsie. My business background led me to donuts. After seeing Howard Schultz of Starbucks revolutionize coffee, I was inspired to reinvent the donut. We handcraft everything, and now we’re the largest artisanal donut producer in the U.S.”
Prime Location
The new Dough Donuts will be situated at 1119 Lexington Avenue, near East 78th Street.
“We’re very selective about our locations, and this one is ideal—on a bustling street, close to the subway and Lenox Hill Hospital,” Klein said.
After two years of searching for the right spot on the Upper East and Upper West Sides, Klein found a landlord who values their tenant base over high rent.
“We’re aiming for a November opening, just in time for Thanksgiving,” Klein added. The new store will operate with hours similar to Dough’s other locations, from approximately 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Update
Klein also clarified that Dough Donuts are no longer available at Whole Foods, contrary to earlier information that they were sold at Whole Foods locations across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
