Founded by Joan and Tim O’Connor, Honeymoon Sweets is a labor of love inspired by the couple’s passion for European confections. Having honed their craft in various hotels across Europe and New York, the O’Connors brought their expertise to the Valley, determined to share their favorite treats with the community.
Committed to quality and supporting local businesses, Honeymoon Sweets prides itself on using natural ingredients and locally sourced produce. The bakery’s dedication to authenticity extends to its name, which was coined by Joan’s daughter, Elizabeth, during a whimsical brainstorming session.
Established in 1996, Honeymoon Sweets initially focused on wholesale distribution to Valley hotels, golf clubs, and sports arenas like Chase Field. However, overwhelming demand prompted the opening of a storefront in 2008, allowing both wholesale and retail customers to savor their delectable offerings.
Like many businesses, Honeymoon Sweets faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite setbacks, the O’Connors remained committed to their vision. In 2020, they passed the torch to Tim and Krista Gordon, who share their dedication to excellence and community engagement.
Under new ownership, Honeymoon Sweets continues to evolve, with recent upgrades including expanded seating areas and an enhanced menu featuring espresso drinks and sandwiches. Customers can indulge in an array of treats, from traditional European pastries to custom cakes and pies, with gluten-free and vegan options available upon request.
According to Alisa Hoppis, General Manager of Honeymoon Sweets, the Strawberry Bavarian cake reigns as a customer favorite, boasting layers of white cake, vanilla cream, and fresh strawberries. For a unique twist, patrons can enjoy the “cromboloni,” a delightful fusion of croissant and donut available in pistachio, mango, or chocolate-filled varieties.
