Mister Donut, Japan’s leading doughnut chain, has been doing some fantastic collaborations with local brands and businesses in recent years, but now it’s teaming up with some famous characters from overseas – the Minions!
The collaboration comes ahead of Despicable Me 4’s July 19 release in Japan, and the Minions play a major role in the film series, having starred in the original film in 2010.
The new doughnuts capture all the fun and chaos of the Minions taking over some of Mister Donut’s most popular products, starting with the chain’s new Pon de Ring doughnut, which is covered in bright yellow banana milk chocolate frosting and paired with blue chocolate popping candies, shaped like denim overalls. The crackling texture of the candy on the tongue, as well as the chocolate eyes with glasses, are a reflection of the Minions’ playful personality.
For this new offering, Mister Donut’s classic doughnut is coated in mango jam and filled with a secret whipped cream, perfectly capturing the Minions’ playful personality. To finish off the doughnut, a cartoon character face is adorned on top.
The bite-sized golden chocolate balls are filled with chocolate cream, and one of the Minions is covered in yellow banana milk-flavored chocolate for an extra hint of mischief.
The Minions are known for their expressive eyes, so the chain created a total of four different chocolate versions for the Golden Pop and Pon de Popping Ring doughnuts.
The Minion Mango Fashion features one of three different facial expressions, so you never know which Minion you’ll meet… and eat!
