It’s normal to feel a little shy when you first meet someone. You could even say that while you’re still figuring out your new acquaintance’s personality, it’s best to relax a little when it comes to expressing your opinions and passions.
But it all makes that second meeting after you hit it off all the more special, as we’ll see later this month with the new Misdo Meets Pierre Marcolini range of sweets from Japanese doughnut chain Mister Donut.
If you want to stick to the language, the new batch should really be called “Misdo Meets Pierre Marcolini Again,” as this is actually the doughnut chain’s second collaboration with the Belgian chocolatier, following their first collaboration in 2021. We won’t spend too much time nitpicking about Mister Donut’s terminology, though, as we can take the time to admire these chocolates in all their glory.
The first of the five new creations, pictured above, is the Chocolat Noir (352 yen). Inspired by the “financier” (referring to the French almond cake, not the financial guru), this chocolate is a combination of chocolate, ganache cream, whipped cream and a crispy chocolate filling, with a balanced taste that is both rich and mellow, yet attractively light, bringing a variety of tastes and textures to enjoy.
The Chocolat Noisette (352 yen) also has many of the same attributes, with ganache whipped cream, hazelnut (noisette in French) cream and candied almonds.
Marcolini also created the Chocolat d’amande (374 yen) for this collaboration, which is filled with cranberry almond chocolate cream and topped with almond slices.
This is the second collaboration between Mister Donut and Marcolini, and another key number is 50, as this collaboration is also part of Mister Donut’s celebration of its 50th anniversary of introducing traditional doughnuts to its menu. To mark the occasion, the Misdo Meets Pierre Marcolini collection features a cocoa-dusted Chocolat Mou Fashion (297 yen)…
…and a Chocolate Raspberry Fashion (297 yen) served with a sweet-and-sour raspberry sauce. Both the old and new versions are made with a mix of rice and whole-wheat flour, giving them a slightly crunchy bite.
The entire line is currently on sale at Mister Donut locations across Japan for a limited time, with the exact date yet to be determined. However, considering that Mister Donut is calling this the “first release” of its second collaboration with Marcolini, and has promised a second round of sales on January 29, it might be wise to get your hands on these products soon.
