Sweet Talk Donut Shop in Port Moody will extend its hours Thursday through Saturday.
But don’t expect to be able to devour its doughy sweets.
Instead, the bar, popular for its triple chocolate Old Fashioneds and tasty treats like cinnamon rolls, is transforming into a cocktail lounge for late-night weekend drinks.
Sweet Talk co-founder Scott McTavish said the cocktail concept was always on his and business partner Juan Perello’s radar, and the restaurant’s decor creates a casual atmosphere with warm wood furniture, blue upholstered chairs and banquettes.
Now that the donut shop, located next to Taps and Tacos on Moody Street, has received a liquor license, the idea is finally coming to fruition.
McTavish said the cocktail bar will attract a different customer than those seeking donuts or breakfast sandwiches and provide a new revenue opportunity.
Perello, who has flexed his cocktail-mixing skills at a number of Vancouver bars, including The Keefer Bar in Chinatown, said the idea was to bring a big-city, laid-back experience to Port Moody.
“It’s all about comfort and nostalgia,” he said of the concept. “At night, it’s that communal vibe that’s appealing.”
But don’t expect to pair your nitro espresso martini with a Boston cream.
The last doughnut was sold at 4:30 p.m., Perello said, though many of the ingredients they use to make the doughnuts have found their way into adult beverages.
