HiFi Donuts, a beloved doughnut shop in Monument Square that has been in business since 2017, announced on Tuesday that it will be closing its current location in April. The owners, Melissa and Ari Modugno, revealed that they were unable to renegotiate their lease, which will mark the end of their operations at 30 City Center on April 17.
In an Instagram post, the shop expressed its disappointment over the closure but emphasized that it is not the end. “This is not our choice, and we will be looking for the right space to move to,” the post stated. “We hope that this is not the end of HiFi Donuts, but the beginning of something new and exciting.”
HiFi Donuts is known for its commitment to using traditional cooking methods, such as frying doughnuts in lard and preparing breakfast and lunch items in tallow, avoiding seed or soy oils. The shop’s owners noted that, while they were initially unsure how customers would react to these methods, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. “We let the taste speak for itself,” the post added.
Though the Modugnos could not immediately provide further details, the community is hopeful that HiFi Donuts will continue its mission in a new space soon.
