The Donut Hole Reopens in Laplace, Bringing Back a River Parishes Staple

by Celia

After three and a half years of rebuilding following the devastation of Hurricane Ida, The Donut Hole in Laplace has reopened, bringing its signature sweet treats and Kolaches back to the community.

The beloved local shop, which had been a staple in the River Parishes for 30 years before the storm, was forced to relocate to Livingston after the hurricane ripped off its roof and destroyed the original building. But now, under new ownership by Bret Bahr, The Donut Hole is back in Laplace, much to the delight of its loyal customers.

“I’m glad it’s back open, especially for local business,” said one customer. Another remarked, “The regular glazed is my favourite.”

Bahr, who has deep ties to the community, shared, “They had moved, and I was really upset. It’s back for the community—for everybody in the River Parishes who enjoyed the donuts. It’s been a staple for so long.”

True to its roots, The Donut Hole continues to make everything in-house, and regulars are returning to enjoy the same delicious baked goods they’ve missed for years. The shop’s reopening marks not just the return of a local favorite, but also a symbol of resilience and community spirit in the face of adversity.
