De-Stress Week Kicks Off with Donuts, Flannel, and a Little Exercise

UNMC is celebrating De-Stress Week with a series of fun and relaxing events to help everyone unwind. Here’s a rundown of the activities happening this week.

Monday, Dec. 9

Free Donuts, 8 a.m. – The first 200 people to visit the Durham Research Center commons area can enjoy a free donut to start their day.

Holiday Mocktails and Popcorn, 2:30 p.m. – Head to the UNMC College of Pharmacy’s second-floor commons area for holiday-themed mocktails and popcorn (while supplies last). Wear flannel or plaid attire for a festive touch, though it’s optional.

HIIT Class, 5:15 p.m. – End your Monday with a high-intensity interval training class at the Center for Healthy Living. The free one-hour class combines strength, endurance, and power training. No pre-registration required, but attendees must check in five minutes before class.

Tuesday, Dec. 10

Student Snack Break, 10 a.m. – Grab a healthy snack and help assemble a puzzle at the McGoogan Health Sciences Library on the sixth floor (while supplies last).

TRX Class, 12 p.m. – Join a free TRX class at the Center for Healthy Living to improve strength and flexibility using bodyweight resistance. No pre-registration required, but attendees should check in five minutes before class.

Chancellor’s Holiday Tea, 2 p.m. – Enjoy holiday cookies and tea at the Wigton Heritage Center, courtesy of Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD.

Wednesday, Dec. 11

Cycling Express, 6:45 a.m. – Start your day with an intense, low-impact cardio workout on a stationary bike at the Center for Healthy Living. The class is free, and no pre-registration is required. Remember to check in five minutes before class.

Pups and Bagels, 7:45 a.m. – Take a break with some puppy snuggles from the Paws for Friendship therapy group and enjoy free bagels at the Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons. Bagels are available for the first 120 attendees.

Blessing Bags, 11:30 a.m. – Help create winter blessing bags for those in need at the Wigton Heritage Center. Completed bags will be donated to Together, a local Omaha nonprofit. Snacks will be provided to those who contribute.

Thursday, Dec. 12

Coffee Station, 8 a.m. – Stop by the Durham Research Center commons area for free coffee or tea, with syrups and creamers available. The first 100 people will get a beverage.

Cardio Step Class, 5:15 p.m. – End your day with a high-energy Cardio Step class at the Center for Healthy Living. This free class combines Bollywood music and aerobic exercises to boost cardiovascular endurance and coordination. No pre-registration is required; check in five minutes before class.

Friday, Dec. 13

Pediatric Donation Drive, 11:30 a.m. – Bring a donation for the Nebraska Medicine pediatric patient unit at the UNMC Ice Rink. Donors giving items valued at $10 or more will receive a winter hat featuring UNMC’s mascot, Ellie (while supplies last).

Holiday Skate Day, 11:30 a.m. – Celebrate the holidays with a skate at the UNMC Ice Rink. The first 120 people can enjoy a free hot chocolate bar.

Holiday Sing-Along, 12:30 p.m. – Join the Nebraska Medical Choir for a 15-minute group sing-along at the UNMC Ice Rink to spread some holiday cheer.
