The arrest occurred nearly two weeks ago at the intersection of Crossroads and Greystone Drives, where a driver was caught doing donuts. The driver’s vehicle was also impounded.
However, neighbors say this is part of a larger problem. Tire marks are still visible at the intersection, suggesting that multiple drivers have been engaging in the same reckless behavior.
Amaen Singh, who lives near the intersection, expressed his frustration. “I have a little one who sleeps right here on this busy street,” he said. “This has been happening every single day since I moved here – multiple times a day.”
On November 21, a drone operated by Tracy police captured footage of a 19-year-old driver in a black Cadillac doing donuts at the same location. “Residents in that area had been calling in about this,” said Kaylin Heefner, Public Information Officer for Tracy Police.
For three consecutive days, neighbors reported seeing the same black Cadillac at the intersection performing donuts, usually around the same time in the morning.
The driver returned one morning, unaware that police were monitoring the area with a drone. The footage helped police track the driver’s movements.
“We frequently use drones for incidents like reckless driving,” Heefner added.
Singh noticed a decrease in activity after the arrest but believes there are still more drivers engaging in reckless behavior. “It’s not just the one guy. There are others doing this daily,” he said. “That was just a small part of the problem.”
Singh suggested potential solutions, such as installing speed bumps to deter reckless driving. “They’re too comfortable here. They just keep doing donuts like sideshows,” he said.
Police are urging neighbors to report any further incidents of reckless driving or tire marks in the area. “The community plays a big role in helping us address these issues,” Heefner said.
The arrested driver faces charges of reckless driving, and their car has been impounded for at least 30 days. After that period, the cost to retrieve the car could exceed $3,000, possibly even $4,000.
