Plain n’ Fancy Donut Shop Reopens in Schuylkill Haven.
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — A new sign has gone up on Charles Street, marking the reopening of the Plain n’ Fancy Donut Shop.
The shop closed in 2022 after 60 years under previous ownership. Many in Schuylkill County, who fondly remember the shop from their childhoods, are thrilled to see it return.
Esther Breslin from Cressona expressed her excitement, saying, “Oh yes! I love their sticky buns. Their donuts are good, but their sticky buns are super.”
New owner Tiffany Youst is eager to revive this beloved establishment. She aims to honor the original donut recipes while expanding the menu to include new offerings, such as pretzel pizza.
“They only had donuts and regular coffee before. We now have specialty coffee, lattes, cold brew, cappuccinos, and espresso,” Youst explained.
General manager Mike Miller noted that some equipment from the original Plain n’ Fancy Donut Shop has been retained. He mentioned that Lanny, the previous owner who retired in 2022, is available to assist bakers in perfecting the recipes.
Miller shared his personal connection to the shop, saying, “It became just a part of the lifestyle. In the family I grew up with, it was a staple to get donuts on Saturday or Sunday from Plain n’ Fancy.”
Youst also shared a family memory: “My son wasn’t a big cake person, but he loved donuts, so he would get donuts for his birthday instead of cakes. We would come here to get them.”
Customers can now enjoy a seating area inside the shop. Tiffany looks forward to her bakers refining each recipe and hopes to create new memories for future generations of Plain n’ Fancy Donut Shop patrons.
