Dunkin’ Franchise in the Netherlands Files for Bankruptcy.
The Dutch franchise of the American doughnut chain Dunkin’ has declared bankruptcy, according to joint owner Roberto Fava, speaking to the news agency ANP.
While the reasons for the bankruptcy have not been disclosed, the Telegraaf reports that all 50 Dunkin’ locations in the Netherlands will remain open for the time being.
Dunkin’ Donuts made its debut in Amsterdam in 2017. The franchise was established by Fava and investor Nabil Besali, who already owned several Nutella shops in the city center. The duo also obtained the rights to operate Dunkin’ in Belgium.
In the previous year, the Van der Valk family, known for their hospitality ventures, purchased a majority stake in the franchise and announced plans for significant expansion. However, since that acquisition, multiple stores have closed.
This is not the first attempt to establish Dunkin’ in the Netherlands; efforts in the 1990s also ended in failure.
