Krispy Kreme Doughnuts launched its limited-time Ghostbusters Collection this past Monday, marking a global release that is poised to be a standout Halloween promotion this year.
The launch aligns with a month filled with themed promotions, including Wendy’s SpongeBob Squarepants-inspired Krabby Patty Kollab and Burger King’s Addams Family-themed purple Wednesday Whopper. The Ghostbusters doughnuts celebrate the original film’s 40th anniversary and have quickly gained popularity, not only among fans but also with social media influencers and talk show hosts. The collection was even featured on last night’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.
During his monologue, Meyers highlighted Krispy Kreme’s ecto-charged treats, joking about the Slimer doughnut, which is filled with lemon-flavored green Kreme and topped with a character candy. He quipped, “In honor of the movie’s 40th anniversary, Krispy Kreme is offering a Ghostbusters-themed menu, including a Slimer Doughnut. And, whatever you do, don’t Google ‘Slimer Doughnut’ at work.”
This surprise launch follows the initial introduction of the Ghostbusters Collection in North America and the UK, although it was first unveiled in Mexico and New Zealand. Other key markets, including Australia, also received the tie-in earlier this week.
The menu varies by region, but in North America, it features four items: the lemon-filled Slimer doughnut, the Cookies N’ Creme Ghostbusters doughnut, the Ecto-Sprinkled doughnut, and a marshmallow-flavored buttercreme pull-apart inspired by Mr. Stay Puft. Additionally, the Slimer’s Slime-Ade Chiller is a refreshing frozen lemonade treat made with real fruit and cane sugar. Customers are also encouraged to visit Krispy Kreme in costume on October 31 to receive a FREE Original Glazed doughnut.
