Cider Donuts Finds a New Location in West Palm Beach

by Celia

Cider doughnut lovers can now enjoy freshly made treats at a new storefront dedicated to these soft, spicy delights. Previously available only at green markets, Travis Oimoen and his wife, Melissa Gonzalez, have opened a new location for Palm Beach Cider Donuts at 797 Northlake Blvd, next to the Book Exchange & Comic Shop.

Oimoen and Gonzalez acquired the original Cider Donuts business in 2020 from founders John Carlino and Allan Doherty. Oimoen and Gonzalez had collaborated with Carlino since 2009 while attending the Florida Culinary Institute.

Carlino, a former chef instructor, established his doughnut venture at the West Palm Beach Greenmarket, where he quickly became a well-known vendor. He shared that cider doughnuts are a tradition in his home state of New Jersey, often found at apple orchards during the fall season, typically enjoyed warm with cider. Customers flocked to his booth for the warm, fried-to-order doughnuts tossed in cinnamon sugar.

As demand grew, Carlino expanded the operation with Doherty and created a factory to supply distributors. However, just before Oimoen purchased the business, the wholesale side shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the loss of contracts with major distributors like Cheney Bros., Sysco, and Restaurant Depot.

Oimoen and Gonzalez have preserved the original business model by selling doughnuts at various green markets in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Fort Pierce, Parkland, and the South Florida Fair. They have also expanded to events like the Jupiter Seafood Fest, Traditions Fall Fest, and various community celebrations.

In addition to these markets, Cider Donuts is involved in fundraisers and catering for parties.

At their new location, customers can purchase mini doughnuts in their signature apple cider flavor, as well as a variety of other flavors, including wild blueberry, red velvet, double chocolate, party cake, and seasonal pumpkin. The shop offers a selection of dipping sauces, such as apple caramel, cream cheese, cookies and cream, lemon cheesecake, and tutti frutti. While apple cider remains the top seller, the birthday party cake doughnut, made with Funfetti sprinkles, is a favorite among children.

Customers can order doughnuts in bulk and mix flavors. Popular paper cups, sacks, and boxes are available for purchase. Pricing is as follows: ten mini doughnuts for $8, twenty for $14, and sixty-five for $45.

The store also serves hot coffee, fresh apple cider, and organic milk and juices. Oimoen is open to suggestions for new flavors and plans to introduce several seasonal options throughout the year.

Store Hours: The storefront is open to the public from 7 AM to 2 PM, Tuesday through Saturday. There is no seating available, so customers should plan to take their doughnuts to go.
